The extreme Pokémon fighter game is no longer an arcade exclusive, as Pokémon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has confirmed that Pokkén Tournament will also arrive worldwide on the Wii U during Spring 2016.

The initial reaction of the brawler game inspired from the Tekken series was mixed; many Pokémon fans were intrigued by the idea, yet were disappointed that the game was originally targeted just for Japanese arcade machines. The publishers Bandai Namco has since pushed the development of the brawling game for the Wii U.

This announcement took place during the Pokémon World Championships 2015 where the competing gamers could win a $10,000 scholarship. Despite the official confirmation, earlier circulating rumours essentially confirmed the port’s existence as there were published trademarks of NFC compatibility – which of course links with Nintendo’s push of Amiibo’s.

With rumours of Nintendo’s successor – the NX- coming next year, there may be a chance that Pokkén Tournament could arrive on both the Wii U and the NX.
