The once-so-popular smartphone game series is back to attempt to revive the popularity of the series which despite reaching 2 billion downloads, the game has lost it’s general flare which once became a major app in the smartphone market.

Previously, you may recall the attempted revamp to the series which introduced existing (yet new to Angry Birds) game genres such as a karting game for ‘Angry Birds Go!’ or the RPG game for ‘Angry Birds Epic’, however ‘Stella’ returns back to the standard attack the pig approach for the series, check out the trailer below to see a glimpse of how it appears:

Join Stella and her super adventurous friends on a quest to protect Golden Island from the greedy Bad Princess and her clueless piggies! Meet this fierce new bunch, master their amazing superpowers, and play over 120 action-packed levels!

Stella has teamed up with Dahlia, Poppy, Willow and Luca – the newest flock on the block! These fearless pals have a strong bond but even stronger personalities. You could even say they’re best friends forever… most of the time.

But now these brave birds need to pull together and fight to save the island from Gale, the Bad Princess who’s stolen their scrapbook and is destroying their magical home.

– Official App description.

So how does this game ‘grab your money’ as the title indicates? Well, just as any standard freemium game, Rovio have been displaying slightly lengthy adverts in between levels (which you can pay to get rid off) and with other levels being locked for a certain length of time, which you can quickly overcome by purchasing in-app coins incase you aren’t that patient for the free-timer to allow to play the later stages. Yet the biggest money-grab of them all is the choice to unlock extra characters by buying physical Angry Birds ‘GoTelepod’ toys in-app and then showcasing these toys onto your smartphones camera.

Depending how dedicated you are to smartphone gaming, you may end up spending quite a bit of cash on this one free app. The in-app coins alone start at $1.99 with prices extending to $19.99!

The use of a pink female bird has sparked some ridiculous controversy on sexism, a subject which is explored in this Guardian article incase you want an extra read.

The next Angry Birds app to be expected is ‘Angry Birds Transformers’, which admittedly, the cinematic promo trailer is pretty well designed!

Regardless of your interest of the upcoming app, there’s still the ‘Angry Birds Stella’ app which is released now to download for ‘free’, currently available on:

The App Store and  Google Play
