NFC is one of the biggest underused GamePad features when using the Wii U; ever since its first announcement of an NFC chip in the GamePad, there’s been so much ideology as to what Nintendo could do with it.
Supposedly, Nintendo Frances’ director Stephan Bole claimed the use of NFC figurines similar to the figurines of Skylanders and Disney Infinity would be used in the next Smash Bros for the Wii U:
“E3 is also an opportunity to show the use of NFC technology [used in Skylanders and Disney Infinity, allowing the use of real objects – here, figurines – in video games] in Nintendo consoles . The NFC will be used in the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.”
I’d assume these figurines would somehow link back to collectable trophies which are symbolised in the franchise.
Earlier this month there were rumours that Nintendo were intending to create a Disney Infinity rival with Nintendo characters, perhaps these rumours were linking to this.
