Satoru Iwata was known to be suffering from some health issues, with him previously taking time off from Nintendo due to health reasons. After operations removing tumours and such, Iwata has passed away at the age 55.
Nintendo report that a bile duct growth was the health issue and the cause of death. He died on July 11th, 2015.
Iwata’s involvement with Nintendo has been appreciated over the years; he’s moved up as a programmer for HAL working on games such as EarthBound and became director, president and then CEO of Nintendo of America.
